Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul

The INFIMACS II Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul module (MRO) was designed to help businesses that deal with the service and repair of their customers’ items as opposed to manufacturing those items. This suite of programs was specifically designed for the aircraft industry, satisfying FAA requirements for reporting and transaction tracking purposes; however, it is easily adaptable to any number of businesses requiring this capability. The module was designed to be flexible in dealing with situations this type of work requires; for example, allowing the user to be either the owner of the repair item or the company responsible for the guarantee/ warranty work.

MRO maintains information generated about the returned item from the initial receipt of the part through quoting, repair, shipping, and invoicing. It maintains a capabilities file by item number that automatically determines if the user is able to perform the work which needs to be done, either through FAA approval or internal training. Once it is determined that the repair can be done, costs are maintained and rolled into the job, allowing the user to see all costs incurred at any point in the process, broken down by material, labor, overhead and subcontract. The module also allows pricing by flat-rate, regardless of components or labor actually used. A combination of flat-rate and additional charges can be provided as well.

MRO has its own item master and bill of material, otherwise known as the Illustrated Parts List (IPL), adding detail to the standard INFIMACS II item master and bill of materials capabilities. The MRO item master maintains parts by a combination of item number and manufacturer, giving the user the ability to segregate items by part number and, within part number, manufacturer code.

Each item has its own cost record and transaction history. The MRO bill of material (IPL) adds figure and index numbers to the standard bill, allowing the same item to appear multiple times on the same level of the bill with different figure and index numbers. This is especially helpful when using the bill of materials to locate items on a drawing. A further refinement allows the user to check usage by figure and index.

Also included in the MRO module is the ability to create unique bill of material (IPL) pick lists, automatically specifying the components required for the type of service or repair being performed. For example, if an item is returned for normal maintenance, a pick list can be generated including only the items required to perform this task. If the same item is returned for a major overhaul, a different pick list is generated including all of the components required for this task. Of course, any additional parts required, whether on the bill of materials (IPL) or not, can be added at any time prior to repairing through shipment of the item.

Many tables and cross-reference fields are found throughout the module to ease the job of data entry. Because this module ties in with INFIMACS II Lot/ Serial Control, each item returned can be looked up on a table showing the last time it was returned, repaired and shipped, with appropriate text describing the work performed.

MRO provides extensive reporting capability for sales and production, providing current information at any time. User-related documents such as quote forms, invoices and acknowledgments are all standard. All of the reports, functions, and features of the prerequisite INFIMACS II modules are also available from those modules.
